Geometry: Course Information
Class Materials:
Pencils, easer, colored markers/pens/highlighters, folder or binder. * Calculator-helpful, but not mandatory. Students will have access to calculators during class. Class Expectations: This classroom is one where every person should feel welcome and respected. We need to treat each other in the same way that we wish to be treated. I expect my students to act safely, responsibly, productively, and respectfully. All are expected to follow the Student Code of Conduct found in the student handbook. Your handbook explains the school’s expectations for punctuality, academic integrity, and behavior, as well as the consequences.
Contacting Me and Extra Help: I am available for extra help or concerns in the morning before first hour, after school usually until 4:30pm, and during designated days at PRIME time. If you know that you will be coming in, it is always helpful to let me know in case I have a meeting, etc. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to contact me throughout the year with any questions or concerns. My contact information is listed at the top. Grading: The quarterly grades will be comprised of 10% Formative Assignments and 90% Summative Tests. Each quarter will typically include about 3-4 tests. Tests will occur at the end of each unit. Retakes will be allowed if the following requirements are met. If a student is absent on the day of the original test, they must make arrangements to make-up the test ASAP. Once tests are graded and handed back, students who missed the test will need to use the retake as their only chance for taking the test. There will be no retake of the retake. If you know that you will be absent on the day of the original test (example: field trip, sports, etc.), then you will be allowed to make arrangements to take the test early, and keep the eligibility of having an opportunity for a retake. Summative Tests will be returned for you to see, but you will not be allowed to keep them or take a picture of them. If you wish to go over your test with me, you must arrange for a time to meet. The summative test retake window will only be open for 1 week following the day of the original test being returned. Test Retake Requirements:
What Does A Quality Homework Look Like? Homework will be worth 2 points for every assignment. Homework assignments that meet the quality level criteria listed below will receive 2 points. Assignments that are partially completed, but do not meet the quality level criteria will receive 1 point, and assignments that are completely blank will receive 0 points.
Extra Credit: Extra credit is rarely if ever provided in Geometry. If an extra credit opportunity should arise, it will be given to the entire class. Students may not request extra credit on an individual basis. Infinite Campus and Grades: I will assume that you, as a conscientious student and parent, will be regularly monitoring your grades on Infinite Campus. I try to keep my grades as up-to-date and accurate as possible, but I am human and occasionally there will be errors (examples: assignment marked missing that isn’t, wrong score entered, etc.). Checking your grades regularly will allow you to politely alert me to any concerns when it is still possible to fix them (not three weeks after the end of the semester). Semester Grade: The final semester grade will be calculated as 40% for each quarter and 20% for the comprehensive final test. |
